Quality is the first norm for art, but its final norm is love and truth, the enriching of human life, the deepening of our vision.

Holy, Holy Holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
There is a sign at the sight of Thee, Merciful and Mighty!
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see:
Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power in love,and purity.

Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea;
There is a sign at the sight of Thee, Merciful and Mighty!
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Geertgen tot Sint Jans (ca. 1465 - ca. 1495) lived in the house of the Knights of Saint John (or Knights Hospitallers) in the Jansstraat in Haarlem, The Netherlands. Geertgen himself was probably not a priest, but as a painter he was allowed to live in their monastery. He painted a large altarpiece for the church of the monastery.

Sufjan Stevens mixes autobiography, religious fantasy, and regional history to create folk songs of grand proportions. A preoccupation with epic concepts has motivated two state records (Michigan & Illinois), an electronic album for the animals of the Chinese zodiac (Enjoy Your Rabbit), a five-disc Christmas box set (Songs for Christmas), and, more recently, a programmatic tone poem with film accompaniment for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, a large-scale ensemble piece commissioned by BAM in 2007.Born in Detroit and raised in the upper reaches of Northern Michigan, Sufjan attended Hope College, in Holland, Michigan, and the masters program for writers at the New School for Social Research. Sufjan currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.  https://asthmatickitty.com/artists/sufjan-stevens-angelo-de-augustine/
